Widget Needs a Home Update

Scroll past these lovely photos of Widget for the update.

Some of our readers might remember Eric who rescued the 101 Lakemore Cats back in 2009. We did a number of posts on his rescue efforts because it was such a huge undertaking, both in time and money - not to mention the emotional cost.

He sent us this message and we decided to make it a special post. We would like to help spread the word about Widget. She is adorable. Just look at that sweet face.

Help bring Widget into a warm, loving home.  She is from the Canton, Ohio area..

One of the saddest things for cat rescue humans doing TNR {Trap Neuter release} for population control is the "Friendly" Ferals. Most of the time these sweet cats once had a warm home and were well fed. With so may shelters and rescues full, The cats owners for whatever reason, dump their unsuspecting animals behind restaurants or farms, old country roads. Most of these animals can NOT survive and are left lonely and starving to slowly die. Other feral colonies will reject and drive off these stray unwanted animals.

Below we have the story of Widget cared for by my rescue friend Toby ::::::::::::::::::: PLEASE open your heart , Look at her sweet face ~ Will someone please give this little lady a chance to feel safe, warm and loved in a new forever home. {She is the look alike of my shy feral Shadow who disappeared into the darkness one night last summer and never returned} Please help Widget before it is too late!

WIDGET ~~~~~~ {Toby's words} ~~ I need to find a mature, patient & understanding adopter for Widget. She’s a young cat currently living with a feral colony. She was abandoned there when she was about 10 weeks. She was feral at the time so I TNRed her. Now 8 months later, she’s becoming more & more friendly. She’s not happy living outdoors with the colony, she’s not thriving.  She’s one of those in-betweeners; not exactly feral & not really tame. But I truly believe with some patience & love she would blossom into a wonderful cat & lifetime companion. Widget is spayed & up to date on vaccinations. She’s healthy & content. But she’s not truly happy where she is.

Again, I am looking for maturity & patience. I think Widget would do fine with other cats. But not dogs & not small children. She’s going to need a calm, quiet home.

If interested, please email Toby.

Or leave a message for Toby ~ 330-452-4449 x202

Thank you,

UPDATE 2/2/2011: Widget is still in need of a home. But as you know, 1/3 of the United States is having freezing temps, snow and ice. This is the latest -

I did go get her from the feral colony, I could not sleep at night knowing she was out there. So she is in my garage with 4 other foster cats right now. She’s safe & warm, but she needs to be in real home. She is beginning to trust. I know she will blossom into a wonderful companion for the right person. She is so incredibly sweet & beautiful.

Please help spread the news about Widget so she can get a home of her own.

NOTE: Do not post Widget or any animals in need of a home on Craig's List or any similar website! It is not safe for the animals! But please pass along a link to this blog post. Thank you.

Cotton, Buddy, Merci & Sam

Hi, it's me again, Cotton, with some good news about our resident woofies. But first we have a video for you.

Calm down, guys, and stop dancing with impatience. I know you're all excited. But it's my turn to post the news and you'll have to wait your turn. Now, where was I? Oh, yes -

We got a kick out of watching this. Penguins can walk upright but it's kind of a slow waddle. We didn't know they can crawl, slide, skate, toboggan - whatever you want to call this. It looks like a lot of fun and they sure can move a lot faster this way.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

Momo kitty has not been eating and has been drinking very little for the past week. She is 13 years old and her SS is worried about her. You can visit and leave a comment at her Mieow blog.

And now .... yes, now, Buddy. We were supposed to tell you this yesterday but things happened and we didn't get to post.

Merci, Sam, and Buddy are super excited because they were interviewed - correction, Jan was interviewed and they were featured in Friday's Coffee with a Canine blog. Perhaps you can drop by and read their story. Jan dished a few tidbits on them.

And another reminder that our neighbors Friends of Pike County Animals needs your daily vote to get an adoption and education center in their rural Georgia county. You can vote here. Voting will end tomorrow, January 31.  They are way down in the numbers, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try for them.

Buddy Reviews His Acting

Pssst, Buddy here. Lean in a little closer so you can hear me. We have something to share with you today, but we have to whisper so Jan doesn't hear us. We don't want her to know what we're posting today.

Be we just have to share this. The woman in the video doesn't look like Jan. She doesn't talk like Jan. But she sure acts like Jan! So, here, we'd like to introduce a parody of "our Jan." Maybe you'll understand why we're always running behind and can't get things accomplished. Well, this and the fact Jan hogs the computer.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

This is one idea we can support. And before you read it, we want you to know we are only reporting the news here. We are not advertising or getting anything out of including this.

A while back Merci, Sam and I did a taste test review on Evermore Pet Food. We didn't realize it but our video is posted on the Evermore Pet Food *Press page as their first published review. (Schmitty the Weather Dog did the second.) If you missed it the first time for any reason, it's well worth watching, as I am an excellent actor. I played nonchalant like a pro! Don't listen to Sam.  He's just jealous because I turned out to be a natural in front of the camera.

However, this is not about my acting skills or Jan's amateur attempt at a video. This is about Evermore Pet Food owners Hanna Mandlebaum and Alison Wiener volunteering to "subsist exclusively for one month on their human-grade, gently cooked dog formulas and recipes made only from the whole-food ingredients in their food. (From a PRWEB press release.) They want to prove that their frozen dog food is actually made from human grade ingredients.

After reading the press release, we have to wonder why all pet food manufacturers aren't volunteering to do the same.  Now that would make an interesting video!

Cyndi Dishes Dog News

Hi, Cyndi here. Since Sam did kitty news yesterday, I thought I would do woofie news today. It's really cold here but some of you have colder temps than we do, so I'll wait till the post is finished before burrowing under a blanket.

Today is the blogoversary of Mayzie's Dog Blog and she is having a commentathon. For each comment, her mom will donate 25 cents - up to $100 - to Second Chance Animal Rescue Foundation, the place that rescued Mayzie. Plus, she will have a drawing and - Here, let her tell it in her own words:

One lucky, drawn-at-random winner will also gets a MATCHING DONATION sent to the rescue or shelter of their choice! So that means if we raise 100 green papers for Second Chance, another rescue gets 100 green papers, too!

So be sure to go by and leave a comment to help Mayzie celebrate and to help Second Chance.

We had this woofie post already finished last night when we learned Boris Kitty's sister Abby has gone to the bridge.  Her family is very sad.  If you haven't already, please stop by to encourage them.  It's always hard to lose a furry.

Yesterday we received a request through a friend from a lady who is working on her thesis in Interior Design at Virginia Commonwealth University. We asked if it is okay to publish (as opposed to just emailing our friends) and were told yes, so if you have a dog, we are asking for a minute of your time to fill out a short questionnaire. The data she collects will be anonymous - no personal information requested, not even an email address. Just general questions about your dog(s).

I will complete my thesis project this semester and I need your help. I'm designing a dog day care center within a residential neighborhood and I need information from dog owners. I need to find out the average number of dogs owned per household, how far you're willing to travel for your dog(s), etc. I've designed a short 10 question survey to find out the answers to my questions.

If you have the time, please feel free to take my survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RBLK8RK. Also, if any of your friends are dog owners, could you please pass the link along to them if it isn't too much trouble?

Sam Dishes Cat News

Hi, I'm Sam. I guess you can tell I'm not a kitty but we appear to have mostly kitty news today. We can work around that. Close your eyes and pretend I'm about half, no an eighth ... just pretend I'm a little guy!  But don't expect me to purr!

Furriends of the CB will be holding an emergency auction for Bugsy and Gracie of the Happy Cat Family. It will begin next Monday, January 24. We'll let Gracie, Head Auctioneer, tell you about it -

Double your bidding and double your fun as we are holding two auctions at the same time. We are having one for Chrystal to help get $$$ for a new cat house, that auction will end on January 30 at 11:59 pm est. We also are holding an emergency auction for Bugsy and Gracie from the Happy Cat Family. Much needed $$$$ are wanting for the big vet bills already in need of payment plus more medical things to happen to get these two back on their paws. Not only is one kittie in need from the Happy Cat Family but two. Please check things out as there are many wonderful items and some pretty jewelry that is purrrfect for that special dress up night out for your mommies.

Since we posted the auction graphic in our sidebar yesterday, the starting date has been moved from the 26th to January 31st. Hope you will plan on going by on Monday to check out the bidding items.

UPDATE:  Sometimes things happen that can't be helped.  And so this auction has been postponed until February 14.  Look for it.  It is coming.

You can always get your daily dose of cat blogging news at the Cat Blogosphere. There is a lot of news today, including that Cats of Wildcat Woods FINALLY got their blog back. Their blog was accidentally shut down as a s..m blog, which it most certainly isn't, but it has been a long process to get it reinstated by Blogger. This calls for a celebrations. Perhaps an extra nap.

Unfortunately, we don't really know where to go for daily dog blogging news. We just pick it up from our Google Reader or while visiting.

We remember when Freya started the blogging kitties around the world map so we can see where other bloggers are from and who's in our area. She has posted sign up directions again and if you missed it in 2009, you might like to check it out now, whether you're a new cat blogger or an "old" one. Stop by A Cat Called Freya and enter your info if you want to participate.

Percy Warms His Paws

Percy here. It's really cold and damp in today so I'm warming on a Gizzy Quilt and as soon as I finish this post, I intend to be under it.

We have a short but furry cute video for you today. We hope the yawn won't put your humans to sleep if they're at work.

Gypsy of Kaz's Cats left for the bridge yesterday. It was the first anniversary of Crystal's death, so we know Gypsy's family is grieving. If you haven't stopped by yet, perhaps you could leave them an encouraging message.

Remembering Crystal

You might remember this graphic..  Today our thoughts are on Crystal who left us one year ago. Jan still gets teary when she thinks of him or looks at a picture. He was a very special kitty.

When Jan moved to Georgia, she decided when Grayce and Jenny died, she would not have any more cats. It was too hard to say good-bye.

A year later she heard what sounded like a kitten. She went outside and there was little Crystal crying his heart out. She learned later someone had dumped 2 orange tabbies and they had been wandering around crying. She doesn't know what happened to the other one, but when Crystal saw her, he ran for the porch, leaped high, hit the concrete side and fell to the ground. Well, that was the end of Jan's resolve. She brought him inside.

The older cats hissed and growled at him but he paid no attention. He was a happy guy and ignored them. Grayce liked to burrow under blankets so she had a big laundry basket with bedding. When she went to bed, so did Crystal. He would climb in, stand on the mound under the blanket and knead until she stopped growling. Then he'd lie down and sleep. Eventually they became best friends and they would share a chair in the kitchen for hours at a time.

He grieved for Grayce when she died. Jan took their chair out of the kitchen for some time because he kept looking for her there.

He was Jan's dog before Merci. For some reason, she could never hear when someone knocked at the door. So Crystal would announce them. Jan would hear him talking and she'd go answer the door. And he greeted anyone who came in.

Not too long before he died, a neighbor came over to blow out the gas space heaters and relight the pilots. Crystal came slowly into the room, then turned and went back into the kitchen. It was distressing to see him retire from his self-appointed greeter duties. He was only 11 years old.

He spent his last few days sleeping in a large laundry basket with bedding to keep him warm. The morning of his departure was wet and dreary. Jan badly injured an already infected toe and Buddy had a seizure. It was an altogether depressing day!

She still misses Crystal curling up on her pillow and purring her to sleep. For some reason, the rest of us kitties stopped sleeping on the bed when Crystal died. And then one day when Jan was very discouraged, Cameron - who had never slept on the bed - dared to take over Crystal's cuddling duties but none of us have tried to take over his sleeping spot.

None of us can take his place. He was unique; we all are.

Crystal, we will always love and remember you. You got your paws in the door and paved the way for the rest of us Georgia Funny Farmers.

Brian of Brian's Home blog made a special request for today. We are just going to borrow it from him and the CB --

Please join us for a special topic if you can. After my post last week about helping shelters out during the cold weather, my friend Kika thought it would be a good idea for all of us to do a post about the importance of helping shelters. Not only has the winter been harsh in some areas of the United States, but the flooding in Australia and the landslides in Brazil, along with other regional issues, makes this a very timely topic. So if you would, on Monday, January 24th, please remind your readers of the importance of helping out your local shelters. I know lots of you do this, but a gentle reminder to those that read your blog sure might help. The little things all add up!

TK and Squashie are both shelter kitties and to help spread shelter awareness, they are having a commentathon today to help the Small Miracles Cat Rescue. All you have to do to help their shelter is to leave a comment. You can help spend their mom's green papers on their Mancat Monday post today. Each comment is worth a $1.00 donation.

Dedicated to Our Jan

Hi, it's me, Cameron. This is what I looked like after listening to Pamela Peterson screech sing. It's a fun song, although we had a hard time hearing all the words.  But we thought the words we could hear appropriate for our scatterbrained aging human. So we - unanimously - would all like to dedicate this parady to Jan. (It's okay, we can pick on her. She knows we love her. As long as she doesn't try to sing.)

If the video doesn't play, click here.

We wrote about Dogs In Brazil blog once. It chronicles a couple who feed and rescue street dogs. Their area of Brazil has had catastrophic flooding, wiping out entire towns, killing animals and humans. They are right in the area but were on ground high enough to escape the floods and mud slides. Now they are helping to feed animals left homeless by the destruction. Please stop by to visit Dogs in Brazil and leave an encouraging comment. And they could use prayers on their behalf too.

Rusty Dishes the News

Hi, Rusty here. Excuse me but I just had this sudden, inexplicable desire to eat, so please forgive me if I talk with my mouth full.

We can't believe this. Does this cat have a speech impediment? We can understand him perfectly. I"m hungry! Feed me! The human is obviously deaf, dumb and blind or cruel and heartless. (We're joking.) Here, see if you have any problem understanding what he is saying.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

A couple weeks ago we reported on Jan's aborted flying attempt. We didn't mention she broke off 3 toenails when she tripped over the upraised cement because she didn't realize it until last week when her toes started to hurt and the sharp edges were discovered. Then yesterday morning she tucked in a corner of the blankets on the bed and rammed her pinky into what felt like a metal spring. When the bleeding stopped, she discovered she had torn the nail halfway across her finger - well below where it should be. So she claims she'll need even more computer time because it takes longer to type with 9 fingers than with 10. Percy offered to type for her but she declined.

Sniff, sniff ... we're starting to feel like this is just Jan's computer since it's always our computer time that gets cut back, not hers. Okay, she has important things that have to be done because humans can't survive without green papers, but couldn't she do them late at night while we sleep?

The auction to raise funds to build Chrystal's new cat house has begun. Drop by Furriends of the CB Auctions and check out the items - maybe even bid on one or two. Or at least tell your friends about it. In case you aren't acquainted with Chrystal, you can visit her here.

Merci Friday News

Hi, Merci here. It's kind of cold, so hope you don't mind if we make this a bit short. Jan saw the gas bill and turned down the heat. As soon as I finish this post, I'm headed back to Buddy's chair with the blanket on it since Buddy is curled up in my bed using my blanket.

Last year Jan Photoshop Elements had a nervous breakdown and totally lost contact with our photos. When Jan reinstalled PSE, all the tags she had spent so many hours working on were gone. Since then she can't find any photos without having to scroll through several thousand. Not fun! She is only learning so she didn't know she could save the tags to the files. (Unless any of you know an easier way.) So she needs to redo all the old photos plus the newer ones, something she has been dreading. We'll be around but since Jan will be hogging the computer again, our time will be limited online and we might not be able to leave any comments for a while. We will be checking on you, though.

In case you aren't aware, the jury pool in Boston, Massachusetts now includes a feline. Yep, Sal Esposito has been called and must appear. He will not be excused. We can just see how this can help us in our quest for furry justice. With cats on the jury, dogs are sure to demand equal rights. Dog abusers, torturers and killers BEWARE! Soon we will be helping to decide your fate! You can read the story here.

Cameron Has Temp Amnesia

Hi, it's Crystal again.  Oh, my, no it's not.  I'm Cameron!  I really do know who I am.  It was just a typo.  But you can probably tell Crystal is heavy on our minds today.  We miss our handsome guy.

We have another squee moment for you. Who would have thought? Well, we furries might but many humans wouldn't. But we furries can live together in peace-  as long as we don't try to eat the middle of the carrot at the same time.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

Recognize this handsome guy? He's our latest Zazzle design - photo used with permission.  It took Jan a good part of two days to finish this because she forgets things faster than she learns them any more.  But she had fun figuring out what she wanted and how to do it.

And a reminder that our neighbors Friends of Pike County Animals needs your daily vote to get an adoption and education center in their rural Georgia county. They are 141st as we type this. They started at 155 and dropped back to 165 or 166th place and have worked their way back up again. In fact, they've moved up two numbers since yesterday. They still have a long way to go but with your help, anything could happen. You can vote here.

Cotton Tattles on Sam

Hi, this is Cotton, the senior Funny Farmer, bringing you today's post.

Dogs are not particular about what they eat, as we cats are.  At least most of us.  Some of us eat plastic. But we read a story this morning about a Golden Retriever puppy that ate a cell phone and a small doll. He would have died without surgery to remove the items.

These are photos of the homemade candy corn cat toy Peggy sent us kitties in 2009. She is the one who makes the wonderful hairy blankies for us furries. We loved the toy. It was big and well-stuffed so it was fun to wrestle and bunny kick.

The toy looks small in comparison to Sam.

You can get a better idea of its size next to Rusty, our B-I-G kitty with the dog-size paws.

And here is Cyndi wrestling with it.

One day last June Jan stopped home for a few minutes and was racing out the door again when she noticed what looked like string hanging from Sam's mouth. He didn't want her to see it, but she pried open his jaws and took out this.

Yep, it was unmistakably a small piece of the candy corn toy. But where was the rest of it? Jan hoped he had shredded it and hidden the pieces, but, no, Sam had not only stolen the cat toy but had eaten the whole thing.

Jan was amazed that Sam still had an appetite and kept his food down, while vomiting up candy corn stuffing over the weekend. The yucky swollen, wet stuffing exited at one end and the colorful yarn pieces exited at the other. But exit they did - thankfully!

It gave Jan quite a scare. She is so glad he didn't need to have an operation to save his life. He is banned from playing with stuffed toys unsupervised but he's a big dog so he can reach places with neat things to steal, so he still manages to help himself to one on occasion. He will chew them and pull out the stuffing but he hasn't eaten any since.

And a reminder that our neighbors Friends of Pike County Animals needs your daily vote to get an adoption and education center in their rural Georgia county. They are 153rd as we type this. They started at 155 and dropped back to 165 or 166th place and have worked their way back up again. They have moved down to 140th place. They still have a long way to go but with your help, anything could happen. You can vote here.

Percy Lounging Monday

Hi, I'm Percy. Just lounging around on this dreary Monday, so thought I'd volunteer to do today's post.  Jan is doing much better. Everything appears to be working again. She says she'll never again try to fly without wings, but we've heard that before and she eventually reneges..  Since she's feeling so much better, we woke her with a request for breakfast in bed this morning but she refused.

We have a great video for you today.  This was beautifully made by Irena Schulz, the owner of Snowball the dancing cockatoo. We've posted a Snowball video two or three times in the past. This time we are posting "Be Our Voice." It is beautifully done - don't worry, no blood or gore or violence - and although this video only shows birds, humans are the voice against abuse of any living creature.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

If you would like to know more about the origin of the video, visit this post of the Bird Lovers Only Rescue blog.

Daily Kibble is having a contest this month for subscribers. (You can unsubscribe any time.) The winner will be chosen on January 31st. The prize is - you aren't going to believe this but it's a mommy bus. No, not a real bus. A mommy carrier pet carrier.

In case you've never heard of a mommy bus, DogTipper.com did a review on it and posted the video to YouTube. We realize all of you reading this won't have a cat or dog weighing 15 pounds or less, so the video might not interest you. So we're just going to post a link to the short review.  It looks like a neat carrier.

Rusty Sunday News

Hi, Rusty here. The other Funny Farmers almost forgot to give me a turn to give the news.

We're very glad the ice near the back of our house has finally melted. We have traded the icy steps for a muddy dog pen, though. We don't mind but it comes in the house with us and for some reason Jan doesn't want it. I say "we" because sometimes Jan lets me go outside with the dogs to chew a little grass and look around, but only because I'm as big as Merci so I can't easily slip through the pen openings like the other cats could. Still, Jan only lets me outside when she's pooper scooping the yard or playing with the dogs so she can keep an eye on me. Cats have been known to slip through some very small spaces. She wishes we had a Kitty Kondo so all of us cats cold go outside once in a while.

We have another fun video for you today. We can't help but wonder what happened after the video stopped because penguin #2 was taking the same path to the sea. Just imagine yourself lying in the sun taking a nap and ...

If the video doesn't play, click here.

After listening to Jan whine the last few days about the aches and pains of her aborted flight attempt,we have taken the weekend off to party. We are helping Gracie celebrate her 2nd birthday. Ayla &Iza are celebrating their 2nd Gotcha Day. And Jack, Persophone & Tenzing  are having the first House Trashing Party of the Year. We are going to have to take a long rest after this weekend. We hope Jan will be up to breakfast in bed - for us, not for her.

We would like to note that two Georgia men - Derrick Montez Daniels and Billy Taylor, Jr. - have been convicted of animal cruelty after a Georgia dogfighting raid in February 2010. We would like to see more convictions for this barbaric "sport."

"Each defendant was convicted in Washington County Courthouse for 26 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. Mr. Daniels was sentenced to five years in state prison and five years of probation; Mr. Taylor was sentenced to one year in county jail and nine years of probation." To read the rest of the story, click here.

And last, but not least in importance -
Our neighbors in Pike County, Georgia have no animal control and no shelter. Friends of Pike County Animals (FPCA) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization (currently seeking 501 (c) 3 status) We hope you can spare a minute - daily until January 31 - to vote for FPCA for the Pepsi $50,000 grant.

You can vote for them at Create an animal adoption & education center in rural Pike County, GA.

And please pass this on and ask your friends to vote. We all know how important it is that any community's animals have an advocate. They are not a well-known organization with lots of followers so they will need your help to win.

Cyndi Friday News

Hi, it's Cyndi here for today's post. I was just about to settle down for a nap when Jan finally said we can use the computer for a few minutes. So here I am rushing to put this together.

Buddy is very happy we have no photo of what happened to him today. As ice has melted on the roof, it has dripped onto the back steps and since the sun doesn't reach it there, the middle step is a thin sheet of ice and the bottom step is half ice. After the storm, Jan broke up thick ice with a hoe, but today she decided to coat the ice with lots of salt water to melt it easier. And when she opened the door, Buddy assumed she was going out, so he popped out the door. Just as Jan dumped a pitcher of very cold, salty water on his head. Oops.

We consider ourselves lucky Jan didn't crack her head on the cement when she tried to fly Wednesday. No telling what strange things she might be doing if she had. As it is, we just have to deal with her moving in slow motion and hogging the computer more than usual. So if you don't mind. just pretend you don't notice it's almost tomorrow before we finally get today's post up now.

We have a short but cute video for you today. But first, we'd like you to know we would never do anything like this. Okay, we would think about it. Actually Buddy and Sam would do this in a heartbeat! And, well, we cats would steal the meat if we could. So, maybe we better amend the statement to we would never do anything like that if we could get caught on video.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

You thought we were kidding about reminding you daily about voting for our friends, didn't you. But we weren't kidding. They can really use your vote.

Our neighbors in Pike County, Georgia have no animal control and no shelter. Percy Thursday News

Percy here with today's post.

We're later than the rest of you getting our post up today since our posting schedule seems to have gone wonky but we're here. Our first order of business --

Happy Birthday!!!
to Marilynn of Momma Grace & Company. We hope she has a special day.

We're sorry Pirulo left for the bridge Tuesday.  His family is grieving the 8 year-old kitty.

In case any of you are wondering how Jan is doing, she appears to have survived her first klutz act of the new year but she's a bit slow and stiff. Actually, she's barely moving and complaining the whole time.  Don't know what she's complaining about.  She knows she can't fly without wings so she shouldn't have tried.  And if she just had to try, she shouldn't have used a concrete sidewalk for the landing strip.  But as was pointed out to us yesterday, it's a good thing the woofies weren't walking in front of her.  She could have landed on them.  And we'd be listening to Buddy, Merci and Sam whining about being in pain.

The Klutz Comedy Report

Hi, we are Sam, Merci and Buddy taking over Jan's typing chair today and bringing you the latest update on our human. As we've mentioned before, she can trip over her own shadow while we walk her.

We wish we had a video to show you of today's klutz comedy but there was no witness with a camera available. In fact, there were no witnesses except us and we didn't have a cell phone to dial 911. But if we had a photo, we could be rich. We could buy up a gross of promotional items with Jan's embarrassing moment photo on them and sell them at public events.

But we want you to know, on our solemn word, that we had nothing to do with what happened! The snow is melting, the sidewalks are clear except for isolated spots here and there, and we finally convinced Jan to stick her nose out the door for the first time since Sunday. We were just walking along at our usual pace minding our own business - and behaving! - when Jan suddenly went flying and crashed onto the sidewalk. Sam thought she was lying there because she wanted to play. (Merci points to head and makes circular motions with paw.)

We discussed our financial options at length and thought about buying a custom notepad to carry on our walks so we can draw stick pictures of interesting events such as this one for sale. However, we don't have any pockets and even though she keeps suggesting we get a job to earn some money, we don't think Jan would agree to let us use her pockets.

Note from Jan: The dogs honestly didn't have anything to do with the accident today. We all like a brisk walk when it's cold, so when the toe of my shoe rammed a broken, raised part of the sidewalk, my legs stopped going forward but my body didn't and I crash landed really hard on the cement. Even with several layers of clothes and a heavy coat, it felt like being hit with a cement truck.

Buddy: Sam, Jan has the backpack that was too big for me but if you start wearing it on our walks, we can carry an actual camera and take our own photos. And the next time - cause you know there will be a next time - Jan forgets to pick up her feet, we can take photographs before she comes to ... uh, we mean, before she can get back up, and then we'll have evidence a photo to put on some cool cups to sell. We'll be rich and Jan will be pleased with us. Mortified but pleased.

Buddy's Monday Report

Buddy here with our Monday report. It's cold. Brrrrr. And the cold seems to have affected Jan's brain. She got us all excited to run outside to pee/poop this morning and then she threw open the door to ... to this!
And she wondered why we stopped dead and ran the other way. Last night she tried to get us to run out there with ice raining down.  Is she serious?

Note from Jan: They refused to go out the back door in the storm last night too. But they went right from the back to the front door all excited for me to put on their leashes, and peed in the front yard while we all got pelted.  This happens when it rains, when it's sweltering, when it's freezing, when the wind is blowing, and when we have ice pelting from the sky.  I don't know whether they think the weather is different out front, they think I can protect them, or they just enjoy making me suffer with them.  As you  can see, they did eventually venture into the back yard this morning.

We would like to add that Jan tricked us outside today.  She went outside on the front porch to take this photo and we got all excited thinking she was coming back for us.  But she came in the front door and went to the back door - and we couldn't hold it any longer.  It was time to go.
This is nothing like the weather many of you are having but enough for us.The sunny south is covered in icicles today.  We're so fortunate we don't have to live outside on the end of a chain! We wish every dog and cat had a warm place in this weather but we know it isn't so.  :(

Jackie of  Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance asked us - and probably a lot of other pet bloggers - to post this important information.

Pet-Safe Asbestos Hazard Advisory
Asbestos fibers pose a significant health threat to both pets and their owners. Asbestos is found in thousands of homes and buildings built between 1930 and 1980. Asbestos was a commonly used building material that when damaged over time can become airborne resulting in the fatal mesothelioma cancer. Both direct and second hand exposure has been proven to cause mesothelioma. Please take proper steps to protect your pets and families. Consult a certified asbestos abatement consultant when executing any home renovations that may involve asbestos.

Sam 's News

Yes, this is me, Sam, and I am trying hard to smile, but I don't even want to look at the camera since it's so very boring around here. And now we're expecting a winter storm so if the electricity goes out, we will really be bored!

See, it has been an unusually cold winter so far and we've had a hard time getting Jan to stick her nose out the door to let us walk her.And she's been hogging the computer! So all we've had to do is sleep, eat and watch tv. There isn't much of a selection since we can only get one major network and one oldies station. So we furries are kind of in the doldrums.

We woofies have decided we'd like some TV stands to hold our water bowls and snacks while we play with the channel changer for our whole two stations. A friend just sent over a big bag of dog biscuits their dog wouldn't eat, so we're all set to have a biscuit party with new tv stands when they arrive.

Percy, what do you mean we can't have any tv stands unless we order some extra for you kitties? You can share ours.  Just bring your own drinks and snacks.

Uh-oh, Cotton informs me those are tv stands, not tv trays, and are actually meant to hold a tv, not tv snacks. Hmmmm, maybe we need to reconsider this and find something we can all agree on. What a shame. I was looking forward to dining in style while pigging out.

We'll have to get back to you again on this.

Meanwhile, we have a fun video for you. We don't have enough computer time any more to search for videos very often on our own, so we're thankful to have friends who help keep us laughing. You'll love this sled stealing dog.

Sadly, Golden Boy Luke lost his battle and was sent on his journey to the bridge yesterday. He was loved by many and will be missed by his family and friends.

Cotton Votes Pike County

It's me, Cotton. Jan turned me into a mosaic cat design a while back and the guys thought they'd embarrass me by posting it today. But I don't embarrass easily so the joke is on them.  I'm good-looking no matter what Jan does to my photos.  I know because Jan constantly tells me what a beautiful girl I am, even if I am 11 years old.

We thought we'd share this cute video with you today, a grizzly in a bucket.

Cameron's News Day

Hi, this is Cameron bringing you today's post. The other Funny Farmers thought today's news needs one who looks serious and intelligent.  And of course, well-dressed (tuxedo) and handsome.  Oh, sorry.  Buddy said I'm getting carried away.  That I just need to look like I know what I'm talking about.  How am I doing so far?

For those of you who live in California, we're asking you to read this short article on the need  to change the rabies law to allow sick pets to be exempt from the rabies vaccination under a vet's care and approval . They neglected to include this when they passed the latest law and don't want to change it. Some pets contract an auto immune disease from the shot and to be re-vaccinated is a death sentence.  Please read and sign the petition

We have learned something new.  We spent so much time setting up Google Reader that we have stuck with it.  It needs to be updated with a list of new blogs but GR doesn't have a limit.  We did try out Google Follow once but it wouldn't clear the link after we visited and we could just envision a  congestive mass of a blog jam there (and you all know how easily Jan is confused) so we never tried again.  However, that doesn't mean we aren't "following" your blog.  We most likely have you bookmarked and either in our GR or waiting to be added to our GR.

But in case you are using Google Follow, you might be about to learn the same new information we did.  There is a limit - you can only like 300 blogs using Follow.  If you use GF and are interested, you can read about it here.

Nala, Cloon & Cotton, Pike Friends

It is amazing what a little kindness from rescuers can often accomplish. Nala the pit bull went from terrified to cuddly in a couple of hours with patience and gentle touch for her heart and some food for her tummy. She's now in foster care and needs a home.

Cloon and Cotton, Judi, Mayzie

We trust 2011 arrived with a smile and a hug for each of you. If it sailed in on a cold, stiff wind, we are hopeful the year will bring warmth and mellow out.

Today is Sammy & Andy's mama's birthday. She's the lady who's been hatting the catties around the Cat Blogosphere. You won't believe this but she's mumble-mumble years old. If you haven't already, stop by and tell her how young she looks for her age. She'll love that.

Seriously, we don't know how old she is. We're just teasing her.
Happy Birthday, Judi!

If you remember, Cotton won Clooney's contest. Sunday Cloon arrived on his Harley and picked her up for their ham picnic. You can read the beginning of their adventure on Cloon's Easy (Rider) Like Sunday post.  As promised, Cloon brought along his associate "The Baby" and a special guest friend. We're all excited and can't wait to hear the rest of the story.  We'd offer you some ham to nibble while you read but she took it all with her.

Mayzie's Dog Blog is having a Bark It Furward commentathon. We had one last month and it was a lot of fun. Milk Bone will donate $1 for each comment so race over to Mayzie's and spend someone else's buck. :) And you don't have to be a blogger (website) or a dog to comment.

Raider of A Life of Many Cats ran off to the bridge December 17, but the notice was just posted Saturday.  We know we've put in a few links already, but if you haven't already, please take a moment to leave a comment for his mom Laura. Raider was 13 years old and she is missing him very much.

And Echo's family is also broken-hearted. Echo collapsed and died very suddenly last Wednesday. He hasn't posted since Meeka died in July but messages can be left on The Daily Echo blog.

We send hugs, purrs and tail wags to both grieving families.

Jan stopped at Petsense in Thomaston, GA yesterday and the white & orange kitten had been adopted, so for the moment this calico is the only one left for adoption. They will probably be getting some new shelter cats this week. Jan has a short memory but she thinks the manager said they have adopted 23 cats since they opened in November. That's surprisingly good for this area.
